
Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM)
Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is the most advanced dynamic reactive power compensation technology. The STATCOM can be regarded as a voltage source converter, which can instantly and automatically compensate the reactive power through injecting the controllable reactive current (capacitive or inductive) to improve the power factors, reduce power loss and achieve voltage stability.

Real-time system voltage regulation of grid point of connecting to ensure both transient and steady-state voltage stability.

Smaller footprint
STATCOM uses advanced power electronics such as IGBT which are much more compact and modular in design. Compared with SVC or Fixed capacitors, it doesn't need large passive components like which require more physical space. STATCOM typical footprint is approximately 30-50% smaller with the same rating.

Grid friendliness
During grid system faults, STATCOM can realize voltage and frequency ride through and continue contributing trasient voltage and reactive power to support system stability.

Stronger performances
STATCOM is very strong in control accuracy and speed with only ≤5ms reponse time, excellent in harmonics characteristics. The total harmonic current content of 35kV STATCOM is ≤0.6%In. STATCOM also outperform in V/I characteristics. The output capacity of STATCOM remains unchanged even at very low voltage dips. Furthermore, STATCOM can provide extensible solutions for power oscillations damping, active power filtering, imbalance control, etc.
