CGN Laizhou Tushan 600 MW Salt-PV Hybrid Project's 244.2/488.4 MWh Energy Storage Station Successfully Connected to the Grid

On October 28, 2024, the CGN Laizhou Tushan 600 MW Salt-PV Hybrid Project’s “244.2/488.4 MWh Energy Storage Station” successfully connected to the grid. This project is the largest energy storage project in Shandong Province and the first “Salt-PV Hybrid” power generation project for CGN Group. The successful grid connection also signifies that Sieyuan Qingneng Electric Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Sieyuan Qingneng) has entered the mature application stage for its “hybrid energy storage system,” providing new momentum for energy structure adjustments and green development.
This project represents a practical implementation of the new “PV + Storage” green energy solution, with an installed capacity of 600 MW. For the energy storage component, Sieyuan Qingneng has innovatively developed the “hybrid energy storage system” (244.2 MW/488.4 MWh lithium battery + 4 MW/30s supercapacitor), combining supercapacitors (EDLC) with lithium-ion (LFP) batteries. This configuration has the long life, high power density, and fast response of supercapacitors while addressing the rapid degradation of lithium-ion batteries caused by frequent participation in frequency regulation. This product maximizes the efficiency of the energy storage system and increase client revenue.
The “hybrid energy storage system” encompasses all the functions of standalone energy storage, and it can regulate the power supply from photovoltaic generation, participate in electricity market transactions, and provide real-time primary frequency regulation services required by the grid. This enhances the performance of standalone energy storage stations in primary frequency regulation, ensuring sufficient primary frequency resources for the power system.
